About this collection
Artisan Quality, Accessible Scale
Hand-tufted rugs occupy a thoughtful middle ground — crafted by hand using a tufting gun, yet far more expressive than anything a power loom produces. At House of Rugs, our artisans punch each strand of yarn through a stretched canvas backing, following patterns drawn freehand onto the cloth. The result is a rug with genuine handmade character at a price point that opens the door to larger sizes and bolder design choices.
Craft and Construction
The tufting process allows our designers to work with colour and texture in ways that flat production cannot match. Pile heights can shift within a single piece — carved channels, raised medallions, contrasting loop-and-cut surfaces — giving hand tufted rugs a sculptural quality you can feel underfoot. We work primarily in hand-spun wool and viscose blends, chosen for their softness and the way they catch and reflect light differently across the surface.
Where They Work Best
Because tufted carpets offer a plush, cushioned pile, they are particularly well suited to bedrooms, reading rooms, and any space where comfort is the priority. They also take well to contemporary and transitional patterns — oversized florals, abstract washes of colour, graphic stripes.
Our hand tufted rugs deliver a genuinely handcrafted product — designed in-house, made by our women-weaver cooperatives — without the extended timelines of knotted work. For anyone building a layered, design-led home on a considered budget, this is where to start.
