Woven on the Loom, Shaped by the Hand
Handloom rugs sit at the intersection of craft and efficiency. Woven on traditional floor looms operated entirely by hand — no electricity, no automation — they carry the texture and warmth of artisan production while allowing our weavers to work at a pace that makes larger sizes and custom colourways accessible. At House of Rugs, our handloom carpets are among the most versatile pieces we offer.
How Handloom Differs
The handloom is a frame loom where the weaver controls the shuttle, the tension, and the beat of each row manually. Unlike hand-knotting, which builds the rug knot by knot, handloom weaving interlaces weft yarns across the full width of the warp in a single pass. The result is a flat or low-pile surface with a distinctive ribbed texture and a pleasingly organic drape. No two handloom rugs are identical.
Materials We Use
Our handloom rugs are woven in wool, cotton, jute, and blended yarns, each chosen to suit the intended use. Wool handlooms offer a soft, dense surface for living areas. Cotton and jute versions bring a lighter, more casual quality suited to transitional spaces, entryways, and covered outdoor rooms.
Handloom rugs pair exceptionally well with natural materials — wood floors, linen upholstery, rattan furniture. Their texture reads as warm without being heavy, making them a strong choice for layered, tonal interiors. If you are building a home around natural fibres and quiet sophistication, handloom carpets are an intelligent foundation.
